Donny, Marie und Jimmy Osmond sind die drei jüngsten Geschwister einer musikalischen Großfamilie aus Utah mit insgesamt 9 Kindern. Fünf der älteren Brüder machten schon Ende der 1950er Musik und traten unter dem Namen „The Osmonds“ auf Dorffesten auf. Ab den 1960er Jahren waren sie regelmäßig in TV-Shows und auch in Fernsehserien zu sehen. Donny hatte 1964 als 5-Jähriger seinen ersten Fernsehauftritt mit den Osmonds und wurde später Teil der Band. Jimmy stieß 1972 als 9-jähriger dazu.
Ihre Schwester Marie, die als Teenager Countrymusik bevorzugte, ging eigene musikalische Wege und hatte 1973 im Alter von 14 Jahren ihren ersten großen Hit. Zusammen mit ihrem Bruder Donny bekam sie drei Jahre später eine eigene TV-Musikshow – The Donny & Marie Show. Die Show mit den jungen Musiktalenten war sehr erfolgreich und wurde über drei Jahre bis 1979 produziert.
Die beiden waren damals echte TV-Idole, auf die auch Mattel aufmerksam wurde. Es wurden Lizenzverträge geschlossen und Donny und Marie gab es ab 1977 als Fashiondolls in Barbiegröße. Sie bekamen eine eigene Linie, die neben den Marie & Donny Dolls (im Single und Doppelpack) auch zahlreiche Fashionpacks beinhaltete, die als Exclusives by Mattel, sowie Montgomery Ward, Sears und Aldens verkauft wurden. Ergänzend gab es eine große TV-Show Bühne, einen Touren-Van, ein Hollywood Home und zahlreiche weitere Lizenzprodukte.
Weil die Osmonds gut ankamen, kamen 1978 weitere Fashionpacks und Zubehör heraus. In den Katalogen dieses Jahres vermischten sich (SuperStar) Barbie / Ken und Marie / Donny in gemeinsamen Werbefotos, wodurch hervorgehoben wurde, dass sie die Kleidung miteinander tauschen können. Außerdem wurde 1978 auch der kleine Bruder Jimmy als Doll heraus gebracht. Er bekam aber keine eigene Fashionlinie.
Donny, Marie and Jimmy Osmond are the three youngest siblings in a huge musical family from Utah with a total of 9 children. Five of the older brothers started making music in the late 1950s and were performing at village festivals under the name „The Osmonds“. From the 1960s they had regulary performances in TV shows and also TV series. Donny made his first television appearance with the Osmonds when he was 5 years old in 1964 and became later part of the band. Jimmy joined in 1972 when he was 9 years old.
Sister Marie, who prefered country music, went her own musical way and had her first big hit in 1973 at the age of 14. Three years later, she got her own TV music show together with her brother Donny – The Donny & Marie Show. The show with the young musical talents was very successful and was produced over three years until 1979.
At that time, the two were big TV idols, which Mattel became aware of. License agreements were signed and Donny and Marie were available from 1977 until 1978 as fashion dolls in Barbie size. They got their own line, which in addition to the Marie & Donny Dolls (in single and double packs) also included several fashion packs that were sold as exclusives by Mattel, as well as Montgomery Ward, Sears and Aldens. There was also a large TV show stage, a touring van, a Hollywood home and numerous other licensed products.
Because the Osmonds were a great success, more fashion packs and accessories came out in 1978. In that year’s catalogues, mingled in joint promotional photos with (SuperStar) Barbie/Ken and Marie/Donny, to point out the ability to swap their clothes. In addition to Marie and Donny Mattel relased 1978 the little brother Jimmy as a doll.
Die Sängerin und Schauspielerin Marie Osmond war zum Zeitpunkt ihrer Fashiondoll 18 Jahre alt. Es gab die Puppen im Einzelset sowie Doppelset mit ihrem Bruder Donny zu kaufen. Die beiden Maris sind nahezu identisch, nur die Kleider unterscheiden sich ein bisschen in der Farbgebung und die Frisuren können produktionsbedingt etwas variieren.
Die Marie Doll bekam ein look alike Facemold mit leicht karikativen Zügen. Sie hat einen ungewöhnlich großen runden Kopf mit stark überzogenem Lächeln, das Maries Zahnpasta-Lächeln aber recht gut trifft. Die Headmarkierung befindet sich im Halsring und lautet © OSBRO PROD Korea 1976. In der rechten Hand hat sie ein kleines Loch, in das ihr Mikrophon eingesteckt werden kann.
Neben den beiden Puppen in Barbiegröße gab es auch einen Marie Make-Up Kopf zum Frisieren und stylen sowie eine 30″ große Marie Modeling Doll – eine Art „Schneiderpuppe“, die mit passenden Schnittmustern verkauft wurde und ihre Fans kreativ werden ließ. Auch die Köpfe der Make-Up und Modeling Doll sind look alike gestaltet.
Singer and actress Marie Osmond was 18 when Mattel dedicated her a Fashiondoll line. She was available as a single doll and in a twin pack with her brother Donny. The two Marie Dolls are identical so far, only the clothes differ slightly in color and the hairstyles can vary slightly due to production.
The Marie doll got a look-alike facemold with caricatured features. She has an unusually large, round head with a very exaggerated smile, which fits Marie’s toothpaste smile quite well. The head marking is in the neck ring and reads © OSBRO PROD Korea 1976. In her hand she has a small hole to insert her microphone.
In addition to the two Barbie-sized dolls, there was also a Marie make-up styling head, and a 30″ tall Marie modeling doll that was sold with matching patterns to get Marie’s fans creative. The heads of the make-up and modeling dolls are also designed to look the alike.

Donny gab es ebenfalls im Single- oder Doppelpack, wobei die Kleidung im Schnitt und in der Farbgebung etwas variert. Anders als Marie hat er keine gerooteten, sondern modelierte Haare. Die Mimik des look alike Facemolds wirkt nicht ganz so überzeichnet wie bei Marie, aber er hat ebenfalls gemalte Zähne und ein extra breites Lächeln. Donny was also available in a single and double pack. His clothing is all the same, but varies slightly in terms of cut and colour. Unlike Marie, he got modeled hairs. Jimmy Osmond war der Jüngste der Osmonds und schon als Kind ein Musikstar mit zahlreichen Hits. Später verfolgte er seine Musikkarriere nicht weiter, er blieb dem Showgeschäft aber treu und wurde ein erfolgreicher Unternehmmer in diesem Business. Zum Zeitpunkt der Jimmy Doll war er 15 Jahre alt. Die Puppe wurde wie bei seinen Geschwistern look alike gestaltet, ebenfalls mit großem Zahnpasta-Lächeln. Sein Körper hat Skipper Größe und wurde ein paar Jahre später für Skippers Freund Scott wieder verwertet.
Jimmy Osmond was the youngest of the Osmonds and was already as child a big music star with numerous hits. Later he did not pursue his music career, but he remained true to show business and became a successful entrepreneur. At the time of the Jimmy Doll he was 15 years old. The doll was designed to look alike, also with a big toothpaste smile. His body is Skipper sized and was reused for Skipper’s friend Scott a few years later.
