EMidge became Barbies first girlfriend. She got her own facemold and looks more cheerful than Barbie. Even though their heads were patented in the same year, Midge was kept in the box for some years. Certainly Mattel wanted to wait if Barbie becomes a success or not. After she was, Midge had her first appearance in 1963 – 4 years later than Barbie.

Midge was produced between 1963 and 1965 with this face. Then she disappeared for a while and PJ became Barbies new friend. She was not only so cheeky to oust Midge, she even used her face! After two PJ’s with this face, it was passed to Christie who rest recycled the facemold in 1971. Then the Midge face returned into the box until Midge’s 35th birthday, that was celebrated with a Repro doll.

Midge has mostly red hair, some dolls are brunette or titian. Her eyes are blue. Some dolls are freckled and some some have painted teeth.

Midge as Barbies girlfriend had her big return in the 90th – with a new face (called Diva)

DMidge ist Barbies älteste Freundin. Die beiden sind praktisch der gleiche Jahrgang (Headmarkierung 1958) obwohl Midge erst ein paar Jahre nach Barbie offiziell vorgestellt wurde.

Nach einigen Jahren der Freundschaft bekam Midge 1969 einen moderneren Anstrich (bei gleichem Facemold) und wurde auf PJ umgetauft. Während Midge große starr blickende blaue Augen hatte, hatte PJ braune Augen mit gerooteten Wimpern. Midge war rothaarig, PJ war blond und trug das Haar in zwei Zöpfen.

Auch für die Live Action Christie (1971/1973) wurde das Midgeface verwendet, obwohl Christie bereits 1968 mit einem eigenen Facemold vorgestellt wurde.

Further Users of the Midge Face were Barbies new friend PJ and the Live Action Christie.
