Mitte der 90er Jahre machte Mattel einen Sprung ins Puppenhaus und verkleinerte seine Modepuppen etwa um die Hälfte auf den Maßstab 1:12. Unter dem Namen „Family Corners“ wurden 10 verschiedene Puppenhaus Spielsets angeboten, bestehend aus einem Puppenhaus, bzw. verschiedenen Räumen aus Pappe und dazu eine weibliche oder männliche Puppe. Die Kinder wurden in den Männer-Sets verkauft. Es gibt 5 weibliche und 5 männliche Charaktere der Ethnien Caucasian (2x), African-American, Asian-American und Hispanic. Für die Männer wurden vier neue Facemolds entwickelt (Ryan und Joey teilen sich eins). Die Mädels bekamen modifizierte Versionen von bereits existierenden Barbie Molds (Lacey und Melody haben das gleiche Mold).

In the mid ’90s, Mattel made a leap into the dollhouse and scaled down its fashion dolls to 1:12 scale. Under the name „Family Corners“ 10 different dollhouse playsets were offered, consisting of a dollhouse or different rooms made of cardboard and a female or male doll. The children were sold in the men’s sets. There are 5 female and 5 male characters of Caucasian (2x), African-American, Asian-American and Hispanic ethnic groups. Four new face molds have been developed for the men. The girls got modified versions of existing Barbie molds.

Die Puppen wurden in Spielsets mit Kleidung (Alltagskleidung und Brautkleid bzw. Hochzeitsanzug) und verschiedenen Raumszenen verkauft. In den Mädelsets war das „Wohnhaus“ in Form von vier verschiedenen Papp-Räumen enthalten, die Männer brachten die Hochzeitskapelle und das Kinderzimmer mit, um das „Haus der Braut“ zu komplettieren. Für jeden Charakter wurde ein eigenes Storyboards entwickelt, das über Namen, Hobbies usw. informiert.

Auf der Rückseite der Spielsets sind die verschiedenen Paare abgebildet. Mattel hat die Paare zwar entsprechend ihrer Ethnien zusammengestellt, in der Gebrauchsanleitung in der Packung ist jedoch zu lesen: „Who will marry whom? You decide! There is no right or wrong choice-any combination makes a family!“ Mit anderen Worten, die Kinder konnten die Püppchen nach Lust und Laune miteinander verheiraten.

The dolls were sold in playsets with fashion (everyday outfit and bridal gown/wedding suit) and various room scenes. The girls sets contained the „living house“ in the form of four different cardboard rooms, the men brought the wedding chapel and the children’s room to complete the „bride’s house“. Each character got his own storyboard, which provides information about names, hobbies, etc.

The different pairs are shown on the back of the playsets (look up). Although Mattel grouped the couples according to their ethnicity, the instructions inside the box says: „Who will marry whom? You decide! There is no right or wrong choice-any combination makes a family!“ In other words, the children could marry the dolls together as they liked.

Joey teilt sich das Face mit Ryan, er spielt Schach und fährt Fahrrad und Sportwagen. Ansonsten ist er ein romantischer Typ, der sein Mädchen gerne zum Candle Light Dinner einlädt.
Joey shares the face with Ryan, he plays chess and rides his bike and sports car. Otherwise he is a romantic guy who likes to invite his girl to a candle light dinner.

 

Melody teilt sich das Facemold mit der Hispanic Lacey Puppe, es hat die Züge des Diva Facemolds.
