The facemold was only used for a handful dolls. In the last years it had a little revival and in 2019 Mattel patented a modified version of the mold. The Cookie Swirl Barbie seems to be the first who used it.

DDie beiden Generation Girls Tori (Australien) und Chelsea (Großbritannien) wurden 1999 vorgestellt. Sie teilen sich das gleiche Gesicht, für das Tori die Namensgeberin wurde. In der Generation Girl Reihe gab es drei verschiedene Sets mit Tori und zwei mit Chelsea:Generation Girl (Tori mit Skateboard und Rollerblades, Chelsea mit Gitarre)

I think the diference is the fact that the original mold had the eyelids sculpted on (similar to the superstar mold), but since barbie dolls these days have such big eyes in comparison with older ones, and the way the faces are added to the dolls has changed so much over the years, could this be the reason they re-made it? Just my theory…
