EOn the 2007th Toy Fair Mattel presented a new talking Barbie and Teresa – the Chat Divas. The uniqueness of their facemold was a fllexible mimic. In their head is some electronic stuff that makes them open their mouth and move the head. Docked to a „Soundstation“ they talk and sing and open their mouth simultaneously to the text while they move the head to the left or to the right.

Raising the right arm (with telefon) activates a call and Barbie speaks a few sentences with Teresa. In her left hand she holds a microphone. Moving it to her mouth makes her sing. She is able to performe three different songs. In between she declares that it’s fun and invites to sing along.

Raising the telefonarm while she sings, stops her performance and she talks into the phone. And randomly the phone rings, that makes her say, that she has no desire at the moment and that the caller will call again later.

Another feature ist to connect a ipod oder MP3 / CD Player with the Soundstation. According to usage instructions Barbie will also „sing“ and move to this music.

To realize the mobility of the mouth, Mattel used elastic plastic which is unfortunately dust prone.

Later in the year the two Chat Divas Barbie and Teresa were completed with a Chat Nikki. The Facemolds of the three dolls seems to be the same – but no garantee.

DDas Barbie Facemold der Chat Divas Barbie und Teresa (Markierung © 2006 Mattel China) zeichnet sich durch eine bewegliche Mimik aus. Im Kopf steckt allerhand Elektronik, die Barbie dazu bringt, den Mund zu öffnen und schließen und den Kopf zu bewegen. Angedockt an eine „SoundStation“ singt und spricht Barbie. Passend zum Text öffnet und schließt sie den Mund und bewegt den Kopf mal in die eine mal in die andere Richtung.

Aktiviert wird die Funktion, wenn man ihre Arme anhebt. Rechter Arm (mit Telefon) aktiviert das Telefongespräch, bzw. sie spricht ein paar Sätze mit Teresa. In der linken Hand hält sie das Mikrophon. Wenn man das in Richtung Mund hebt, beginnt sie zu singen. Sie kann drei verschiedene Songs. Zwischendurch verkündet sie, dass das Spaß macht und ermuntert zum Mitmachen.

Wenn man während des Gesangs den Telefonarm hebt, hört sie sofort auf zu singen und spricht ins Telefon. Per Zufallsgenerator ertönt zwischendurch auch ein Telefonklingeln. Dann sagt sie, dass sie gerade keine Lust hat zu telefonieren hat und dass der Anrufer bestimmt später noch mal anruft.

Ein weiteres Feature ist die Möglichkeit, einen ipod, MP3 oder CD Player an die Singstation zu koppeln. Laut Boxbeschreibung, singt und bewegt sich Barbie dann auch zu dieser Musik.

Um die Beweglichkeit des Mundes zu realisieren, wurde ein elastischerer Kunststoff verwenden, der leider ziemlich fusselanfällig ist.

Die beiden Chat Divas Barbie und Teresa wurden Anfang 2007 auf der Toy Fair vorgestellt. Später komplettierte Nikki das Chat-Trio. Die Facemolds der drei scheinen identisch zu sein.
