2016 brach die Barbie (R)evolution aus: Die Fashionistas Reihe brachte drei neue Körper für Barbie hervor (extra groß, extra klein und „curvy“). Dazu gab es zwei neue Gesichter und insgesamt 24 Dolls.
Zur Nürnberger Spielwarenmesse gab Mattel bekannt, dass sie für Barbie drei neue Körperformen entwickelt haben. Nun war es also tatsächlich vorbei mit Barbies perfektem Modellkörper! Sie kann auch sehr groß, ziemlich klein oder ein bisschen pummelig sein.
Um zu sehen, wie das neue Konzept ankommt, wurde eine besondere Verkaufsstrategie gestartet. Die Fashionistas mit den neuen Maßen gingen nicht direkt in den Handel, sondern konnten Anfangs nur über den US-Mattelshop und Amazon vorbestellt werden. Einige Dolls hatten Wartezeiten von mehreren Monaten.
Ende Februar lieferte Amazon.de die ersten vier Fashionistas mit neuem Körper in Deutschland aus: die Curvy Nummer 22 (zweite von Links), Petite 24 und 25 (rechts) und die Tall 30 (links). Wobei sich die beiden Petites auch noch mal etwas in der Grröße unterscheiden, da die eine flache Füße und die andere High Heels hat.
Seit 2016 hat Mattel unzählige Dolls mit petite, tall oder curvy Körper herausgebracht, die ja seit einigen Jahren ALLE Barbie heißen, egal weilche Hautfarbe oder Größe. Aber unseres Wissens gab es bis 2023 noch keine „echte“ Barbie, also eine Doll mit Millie Face auf einem anderen als ihrem Standardkörper. Barbie selbst ist also gleich geblieben.

At the Nuremberg Toy Fair, Mattel announced that they had developed three new body shapes for Barbie. So now it was actually over with Barbie’s perfect model body! She can also be very tall, quite small, or a bit chubby.
To see if the new concept find acceptance Mattel launched a special sales strategy. The fashionistas with the new dimensions did not go directly to retail, in the first step they could only be pre-ordered via the US Mattelshop and Amazon. Some dolls had waiting times of several months.
At the end of February 2016, Amazon.de delivered the first four fashionistas with a new body in Germany: the curvy number 22 (second from left), petite 24 and 25 (right) and the tall 30 (left). The two petites also differ a bit in size, because one has flat feet and the other has high heels.
Since 2016, Mattel has released countless dolls with petite, tall or curvy bodies, which are all called Barbie, regardless of skin color or size. But as far as we know, until 2023 there was no „real“ Barbie – a doll with the Barbie typical Millie Face on a body other than her standard one. So Barbie herself has stayed the same.
