Wild Hearts Crew war eine Fashiondoll-Reihe, die Mattel ziemlich überraschend im Sommer 2019 heraus brachte und gleich wieder einstellte. Bei der Crew handelt es sich um fünf Freundinnen, die – Zitat Mattel: „es wagen, anders zu sein. Gemeinsam, Hand in Hand, sind sie eine unaufhaltsame Kraft der Frauenpower. Jede ist ihr eigener Hitzkopf, der es wagt, anders zu sein. Ausgestattet mit flexiblen Ellbogen, Handgelenken und Knien kannst du ihnen dabei helfen, alles zu tun, was ihr wildes Herz begehrt! Tanzen, posieren, skaten, abrocken…“
Wenn man sich in früheren Mattel Serien umschaut, erinnern die wilden Fünf an eine Mischung aus My Scene und Flavas Dolls. Es sind aber auch Ähnlichkeiten mit den Fresh Dolls von World of EPI zu erkennen. Deshalb wird gemunkelt, dass Mattel mit der neuen Reihe noch einen Schnellschuss starten wollte, bevor die Fresh Dolls in den Handel kamen.
Was auch immer der Intialzünder für die Wild Hearts Crew war, die fünf Neuen kamen nicht so gut an, dass Mattel mit ihnen in Fortsetzung gegangen wäre.
Über die Gründe, warum die eigentlich sehr hübschen Puppen nicht erfolgreich waren, gibt es einige Diskussionen und verschiedene Thesen. Um nur einige zu nennen:
– sie folgten zu schnell auf die (überraschend) eingestellte Monster High Reihe
– das Konzept und ihr Storybook wirkt seicht und nicht ganz ausgegoren….
– sie wurden nur im Geschäft verkauft, als Walmart Exclusive und noch dazu ausschließlich in den USA
– schlechtes Marketing – viele Fashiondoll-Sammler erfuhren erst von ihrer Existenz, als sie schon wieder eingestellt waren….
Wild Hearts Crew was a fashion doll series that Mattel released in the summer 2019 and discontinued short after. In Mattels words The crew is „a sisterhood of girls who dare to be different. Together, hand in hand, they are an unstoppable force of girl power. Each is her own spitfire who dares to be different… Equipped with bendable elbows, wrists and knees, you can help them do whatever their wild heart desires! Dance, pose, skate, rock out, and express yourself!…“
If you look around at previous Mattel series, they remind you of a mixture of My Scene and Flavas Dolls. However, it was also rumored that Mattel wanted to rush the line before the announced Fresh Dolls by World of EPI went on sale. Certain similarities cannot be denied.
Whatever the initial spark for the new series was, unfortunately the plan didn’t work out. The five newcomers didn’t do so well that Mattel dared to continue them.
There are some discussions and various theses about the reasons why the very pretty dolls were not successful.
– they followed too quickly after Mattel ha discontinued the Monster High series
– the concept and the storybook seems shallow and not fully fermented….
– they were sold only in stores, as a Walmart Exclusive and only in the USA
– bad marketing – many fashion doll collectors only found out about their existence when they were already re-employed.
The dolls use some different kinds of articulated bodys, they differ in size and height. All have curvy hips, Jacy is the curvy doll between them. Mattel developed 3 or more (?) different facemold for the girls.
Jacy Masters is a retro roller-skating queen with a hardcore love for all things classic and vintage. She rocks a classic-cool outfit with bold clothing and accessories like a flamin‘ poodle skirt, ripped jean vest, studded clutch, and — of course — her roller skates with removable wheels.
Rallee Radmor is an amateur guitarist and ultimate pizza enthusiast. She rocks a rad outfit with clothing and accessories like a pink moto jacket over a graphic tank, paired with punk-plaid pants and combat boots. Retro accessories like goggles and a fanny pack add to the fashion fun.
Kenna Roswell™ is a passionate photographer who believes there’s always more than what meets the eye. She rocks an artsy-cool outfit with a beret, studded suspenders, ripped denim, and — of course — her camera, which she brings everywhere!
Cori Cruiz ist Musikerin und komponiert, mischt und spielt ihre Songs immer mit Leidenschaft. Sie trägt ein rockig-cooles Outfit mit einem tollen Overall, einer glänzenden Jacke und Riemchensandalen.
