Die Kopfform wurde 1982 patentiert und im gleichen Jahr kamen auch die ersten Barbies mit diesem Face heraus. Die ersten Jahre wurde es für verschiedene dunkelhäutige Barbies und Ethno-Dolls verwendet, ohne dass es mit einem bestimmten Charakter verbunden wurde. 1986 startete Mattel die „Barbie and the Rockers“ Serie und das Hispanic Face wurde zum Gesicht von Barbies neuer Freundin Dee Dee. Ende der 1980er Jahre wurde es auch für einige Teresas verwendet.
Die letzten Barbies mit dem Hispanic Face kamen 1990 (?) in den Handel. Danach verschwand das Gesicht für 35 Jahre. Bis sich Mattel für 2025 ein Revival der Peaches’n Cream Barbie ausdachte und die dunkelhäutige Version mit dem Hispanic Face gestaltete. In der Beschreibung der AA Peaches’n Cream auf Mattel Creations, wird es jetzt als Dee Dee Face bezeichnet.

The Spanish/Hispanic face mold is often confused with the Steffie face. But there are clear differences. The face has a small, upturned nose, and the lips aren’t as wide open as the Steffie face. A direct comparison also reveals that the face is narrower.
The face mold was patented in 1982, and the first Barbies with this face mold were released in the same year.
For the first few years, it was used for various dark-skinned Barbies and ethnic dolls without association to a specific character. In 1986, Mattel launched the „Barbie and the Rockers“ series, and the Hispanic mold became the face of Barbie’s new friend, Dee Dee. In the late 1980s, it was also used for some Teresas.
The last Barbies with the Hispanic face were released in 1990 (?). After that, the mold disappeared for 35 years. Until Mattel came up with a revival of the Peaches ’n Cream Barbie for 2025 and designed the dark-skinned version with the Hispanic face. In the description of the AA Peaches ’n Cream Barbie on Mattel Creations, it is now referred as Dee Dee Face.
The official name of this face mold is Dee Dee and was confirmed by the Mattel Creations website with the relaunch of the Peaches ‘n Cream Barbie Doll, Brown Hair
