Der 1936 veröffentlichte Roman „Gone with the wind – Vom Winde verweht“ von Margaret Mitchell gilt als einer erfolgreichsten Romane der amerikanischen Literaturgeschichte. Die darauf folgende Verfilmung (1939) mit Vivian Leigh und Clark Gable in den Rollen von Scarlet O’Hara und Rhett Butler wurde zu einem Filmklassiker, der bis heute zu den beliebtesten Filmen in den USA zählt. Diese Beliebtheit hat auch Mattel zu bislang drei Barbie Editionen inspiriert.
Margaret Mitchell’s Gone With The Wind, published in 1936, is considered one of the most successful novels in American literary history. The film adaptation that followed (1939) starring Vivian Leigh and Clark Gable in the roles of Scarlet O’Hara and Rhett Butler became a classic film that is still one of the most popular films in the USA today. This popularity inspired Mattel to create three Barbie editions so far.
1994 und 1995 widmete sich Mattel erstmals der Liebesgeschichte zwischen Scarlett O’Hara und Rhett Butler und brachte vier verschiedene Scarlett Barbies und einen Rhett Butler Ken heraus. Die Scarlett O’Hara Barbies präsentieren vier der Kostüme, in denen Vivian Leigh im Film brillierte. Rhett Butler trägt einen schwarzen Anzug mit Zylinder.
In 1994 and 1995, Mattel dedicated the love story between Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler for the first time and released four different Scarlett Barbies and a Rhett Butler Ken. The Scarlett O’Hara Barbies present four of the costumes Vivian Leigh wore in the film. Rhett Butler wears a black suit with a top hat.

2001 startete Mattel ein zweites Mal großes Kino mit zwei Scarlett Barbies und einem Rhett Butler Ken. Im Unterschied zu ihren Vorgängern bekamen beide Charaktere diesmal eigene Look alike Facemolds, die die Schauspieler sehr gut treffen.

Zum 75-jährigen Filmjubiläum, brachte Mattel die dritte „Gone with the Wind“ Edition heraus. Wieder gab es zwei look alike Vivian Leigh Barbies und einen Clark Gable Ken. Überraschenderweise wurde das Facemold der beiden Schauspieler zum Jubiläum noch einmal überarbeitet. Scarlett wirkt in der 2014er Version noch ein bisschen hochnäsiger als in der von 2001.
For the 75th film anniversary, Mattel released the third „Gone with the Wind“ edition. Again there were two look-alike Vivian Leigh Barbies and a Clark Gable Ken. Surprisingly, the face mold of the two actors was revised again for the anniversary. Scarlett seems a bit more cocky in the 2014 version than in the 2001 version.
