Vorbild für die Barbielon Harmonists ist das berühmte deutsche Sextett Comedian Harmonists.
Das Vokalensemble wurde 1927/28 gegründet und bestand aus den Mitgliedern Ari Leschnikoff (1. Tenor), Erich A. Collin (2. Tenor; Collin ersetzte ab 1929 Walter Nußbaum), Harry Frommermann (3. Tenor), Roman Cycowski (Bariton), Robert Biberti (Bass) und Erwin Bootz (Pianist). In dieser Originalbesetzung waren die Musiker von 1928 bis 1935 sehr erfolgreich und haben bis heute hohe Maßstäbe gesetzt.
