E1990 Mattel issued two new male facemolds. The faces look identical, but one has molded hair and one rooted. The first guy with the new molded face was Alan – so the new facemold was named after him (even though he used it only once).  Connecting to this Collectors call the second face with hair often „rooted Alan Headmold“. But Mattel never produced a Alan with this head…, only Ken used it. Unfortunately all the Kens with this new facemold have a terrible hairstyle and frizzy hair.

DNeben dem gemoldeten 1990er Alan/Ken Facemold gab es für Barbies Dauer Boyfriend 1990 auch einen neuen Kopf mit Haaren. Abgesehen von den Haaren sind die Gesichtszüge nahezu identisch. Verschiedene Sammler bezeichnen diesen Kopf deshalb auch als „rooted Alan Headmold“. Es wurde aber nie ein Alan mit diesem Headmold produziert, nur verschiedene Kens.

      About Stefan I’m not sure, we might be missing him in a variant with opened mouth. We only have a Stefan with closed mouth and Derek face.

I can’t say all the Ken’s with this mold had bad hair. some are actually very easy to style and look great outside the box. much improved from some of the other rooted Ken dolls imo. the hair was actually very different doll by doll, texture, hairline and rooting. some could be seen as rather terrible (I’m sure) but definitely not all – more than half were decently rooted and required minimal combing to style nicely.
